The White Queen

Description

This is The White Queen, a consort of the Winterborn King (fav.me/d7b5lq3). She is a spirit of cool poised grace. In her talons, she holds an uprooted birch sapling, which has been transformed entirely into silver with her touch. Despite silver's weight, she has no difficulty in flight. She is, like winter, as dangerous as she is beautiful.

This piece was a challenge in many ways, but I felt like I needed to push it a little. It was intended to be shown alongside Winterborn King. I now wish that I had waited to see, but I could not pull it off in time.

Scratchboard and watercolor, as usual. Minimal post processing to fix the darks that never scan well. The actual original is 10x20 inches and straight to the edge of the panel. This image you see right here has an 1/8th inch black gutter along its edges. 100-ish hours (many, many stages of carvings, re-carving, steel wool, and fiberglass). I even took this owl to a frame shop, and it now has a beautiful custom silver frame. I'm very pleased. :)

A really great pic you done there but many things can be made better, me as an huge owl fan can tell you something about drawing birds. Even if mine are not anyway perfect I learned much over the years. So you should learn about anatomy first before drawing. Your wings aren't bad but if you had studied an real wing before you would have seen some feathers lie in another way, also there is one big feather in the middle of every wing. the bird use it to stop while flying or regulate the speed and do quick maneuvers.
The face is cool, big eyes every time give deep impact but the faces of owls are clearly parted, you everytime see the facial disk by watching close, on your pic the face goes strait to the neck, thats not good this owl wont be able to hunt well (they hunt nearly only be ears)
I dunno if its part of an fanfic or so but female owls have lots of black points and stripes in their feathers, this would be an male owl (as HEdwig in Harry potter is... )
THe forehead came out an bit much owl eyes lies not so deep also the forehead isnt that wide (of course not over the facial disk since it works like an satelite.

To art: Great job looks pretty nice but had worked more naturally if you don't let the feathers ly that much, owls have pretty fluffy feathers so it works better with no clear lines.
All together I can enjoy this pic of course but with more realistic it would be pretty more awesome.

Please keep up the good work, would be so happy to see more owl art from you this piece has potential.
